Planning to work, study, or build your professional career in Sweden? Skywalk Visa Immigration provides professional guidance to individuals looking for international career and immigration opportunities in Sweden.

Sweden is known for its strong economy, innovation, technology, engineering, healthcare, research, manufacturing, sustainability, and international business environment. For professionals from outside the EU/EEA, obtaining the appropriate residence and work permission is an important part of planning a move to Sweden.

At Skywalk Visa Immigration, we help applicants understand suitable immigration pathways, assess their profiles, organize documentation, and navigate the application process with professional guidance.

Sweden Work Visa & Immigration

If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and have been offered employment in Sweden, you will generally need a work permit to work legally in Sweden. The employment must meet specific requirements regarding the employment contract, salary, working conditions, insurance, and other applicable conditions.

Our team helps you understand the requirements applicable to your individual circumstances and guides you through the documentation and application process.

Sweden Work Permit

The Sweden Work Permit is one of the primary routes for non-EU/EEA professionals who have secured employment in Sweden.

Applicants generally need a valid passport and a signed employment contract. The salary and other employment conditions must be at least on par with Swedish collective agreements or common practice within the relevant profession or industry. The employer must also provide the required insurance coverage.

Updated Salary Requirement for 2026

From 1 June 2026, Sweden introduced a new salary requirement for work permits. For applications covered by the new rules, the salary must generally be at least 90% of the median salary in Sweden at the time of application.

The current published threshold is SEK 34,470 per month, although the applicable amount can change as the median salary is updated. Salary must also meet Swedish collective-agreement or industry-practice standards.

This makes proper profile and employment assessment especially important before starting the application process.

Sweden EU Blue Card

The EU Blue Card is designed for highly qualified professionals from outside the EU who have been offered highly qualified employment in Sweden.

Applicants generally need higher education equivalent to at least 180 higher-education credits or at least five years of relevant professional experience. The employment contract must be for highly qualified employment lasting at least six months.

As of 15 July 2026, the Swedish EU Blue Card salary threshold is SEK 53,625 per month.

This pathway can be particularly relevant to qualified professionals working in specialised areas such as:

  • Information Technology

  • Software Development

  • Engineering

  • Technology

  • Research

  • Healthcare

  • Finance and Business

  • Other highly qualified professional fields

Eligibility depends on your qualifications, employment offer, salary, experience, and the applicable Swedish immigration requirements.

Sweden Job Seeker / Look for Work Permit

Sweden also provides a residence permit route for certain highly qualified individuals who want to come to Sweden to look for employment or explore starting a business.

Applicants generally need to have completed studies equivalent to a second-cycle qualification, such as a qualifying Master’s degree or certain professional/postgraduate qualifications.

This option may be relevant for eligible highly educated professionals who want to explore opportunities in the Swedish job market before securing employment.
